NS0 cell line originated from the isolated cells of the MOPC21 plasmacytoma tumor which was found to secrete IgG1. After generations of clones, the cell line that did not secrete or synthesize heavy or light chains of Ig was generated and hence it was called NS0/1 (non-secreting). As myeloma cells, NS0 cells are naturally antibody-producing suspension cells with a lymphoblast morphology. The GS-NS0 is a heterologous mammalian expression system that allows for the rapid expression of recombinant proteins, which is used in biomedical research and commercially in the production of therapeutic proteins.
