Mesenchymal Stem Cell Banking

MSCs have become widely studied over the past years for their interesting cell biology, broad-ranging clinical potential, and as a central building block in the rapidly growing field of tissue engineering. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including bone cells (osteoblasts), cartilage cells (chondrocytes), muscle cells (myocytes), and fat cells that give rise to marrow adipose tissue (adipocytes). Bone marrow has a limited MSC pool that depletes with age and after disease.

Our Cell Services Cover the Complete Lifecycle of a Cell Bank

  • Sample testing. Before cell bank construction, the samples are screened for infectious disease markers as per existing regulatory guidelines.
  • Isolation and expansion of stem cells and establishment of seed stock cell banks.
  • Screening of proliferative stem cells. For selecting the best clones that have extensive serial passage ability, the cells from each clone are cultured for up to a minimum of 10 passengers and investigated for growth kinetics, doubling time, cellular senescence assay, and immunophenotyping.
  • Cell banking for master cell banks (MCB) under cGMP conditions. The biobank production is started from the seed stock of each selected clone. For this, one cryopreserved unit from the seed stock of each clone is thawed and passaged separately.
  • Cell banking for working cell banks (WCB) under cGMP conditions. For WCB establishment, one vial from the MCB for each clone is thawed and after two sequential passages, the cells are cryopreserved freezing medium per cryovial.
  • Complete validation and release of MCB and WCB in compliance with national regulatory requirements.
  • Long-term storage of cell banks under cGMP management with a reasonable amount of inventory and freezing stability guarantee. All documentation related to cell bank manufacturing, such as batch manufacturing records, cell harvesting details, freezing records, phenotypic characterization, viability data, and details of the master and working cell banks and their locations is provided to our customers.
