Description | Feline Chondrocytes (FC) are derived from normal cat articular cartilage, where they produce and maintain the extracellular matrix of cartilage. After monolayer culture, FC can be grown in alginate microspheres to study the proliferation and metabolism of chondrocytes in a three-dimensional in vitro system. Alginate microspheres provide more physiological conditions for chondrocytes, enabling them to maintain normal proteoglycan production and retention. Since elderly cats suffer from degenerative joint disease (DJD), FC can be a useful tool for veterinary practice. |
